Lab Testing Q & A
What types of lab testing are provided?
The team at Integrative Primary Care understands that a crucial component to good health care is comprehensive lab testing, which is why they offer an on-site lab. With lab testing on the premises, you no longer have to wait a week, or more, for results, which allows the team to quickly diagnose your problem and get you started on an appropriate treatment plan.
Integrative Primary Care offers the following lab testing:
- Allergies
- Drug testing
- Wellness labs
Through both urine and blood, the doctors are able to get a clearer picture of your current health, allowing them to be on the lookout for any red flags.
And, as a patient of Integrative Primary Care, you have complete access to your results through the patient portal.
What is a standard blood test for?
As your life source, your blood carries some important information about your health. By drawing only a small sample of your blood, your doctor can check your:
- Kidney and liver function
- Cholesterol levels
- Enzymes
- Infection
- Oxygen levels
While there are hundreds of things your doctor can specifically look for in your blood, these represent the most common. Your doctor also checks the behavior of your blood during a routine blood draw, namely its ability to clot, which is especially important before surgery.
Why do I need a urine test?
Your urine also carries many clues about your health, which is why the doctors at Integrative Primary Care offer urine drug screens, urine dipsticks, and urine cultures. Aside from drug screens, your urine can determine a number of things, such as:
- A urinary tract infection
- Protein and sugar levels
- Metabolic issues
- Pregnancy
Urine testing is also important for people with certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, kidney disease, and liver problems.
How can I be tested for allergies?
There are generally two ways to test for allergies — through skin testing and blood testing. At Integrative Primary Care, your doctor can test your blood for evidence of antibodies, which your body forms when it encounters an allergen. This type of testing can be used to determine whether you have allergies toward:
- Specific foods
- Dust
- Pollen
- Pet dander
- Mold
- Plants
This list is by no means comprehensive, but it gives you an idea of what the doctors are able to determine through allergy testing.
